NY fashion week: trend watch/belts

if anything's already clear from the spring '09 shows, it's that one key accessory that's not going anywhere is the belt. we've seen all sorts - from skinny, to studded, to earthy browns. at the marc jacobs show, we saw the obi-style belt:

this isn't the first time we've seen this belt. in fact, it had mass appeal a few seasons ago and came in a wide range of colors. however, this is the first time we've seen them so metallic and updated with diaper-style (that's what they remind us of, lol) pins.

the tibi show had a similar take on kimono-style belting:

while the marc by marc jacobs show had layered belts:

which we immediately thought of when we saw tory burch's version:

the belt is definitely taking on a life of its own next season. will the statement belt be next season's statement necklace or will they both take the center stage? hmmm. stay tuned :)

event: NY fashion week/lela rose

LELA ROSE

one word: WOW:

- the fabulous jackets
- structured up top, free skirts (very reminiscent of jonathan saunders spring '09)
- the belts
- the skirts (+ pockets!!!)
- the colors (OH MY)
- the femininity

lela rose = fashion heaven. MY GOODNESS...

okay, so we're getting overwhelmed by fashion week and the beautiful, BEAUTIFUL clothes, LOL. we can't wait to do a round-up come this weekend. in the meantime, we'll keep up as much as we can! follow our 'spring '09 trends' list on our sidebar and keep checking back to see our favorites from each collection!

event: fashion week/herve leger by max azria

herve leger by max azria:

the herve leger show was more of the the same with new and ridiculously fierce additions. here are some of our more specific observations:

- more risque:

- one-handed dresses:

- metallics + greys:

- floor length options:

event: NY fashion week/diane von furstenberg

dvf most certainly went all out for her spring '09 collection. there was some emphasis on keeping it together in her fall '08 collection but next season is about freedom, movement, and getting loose. here's some of the other stuff we noticed:

- very hippie/flower child/boho with her maxi dresses, flowery headbands, flowery print:

- some black and white
- lots of pinks, purples, and oranges

- vibrant print
- watercolor dresses:

- color, color, color:

- accessories: fringe purses, wedged sandals, metallic pumps, clutches
- mixing and matching prints:

[instant edge added with the studded belt]

- gold/metallic pieces + accessories:

- details - knit pieces, sequins, etc:

[excellent attention to detail in this collection]

- tiered and/or ruffle dresses:

- belts: we remarked on her use of belts in her fall '08 collection here:

next spring, she's still belting it up but with a different effect:

FABULOUS, dvf. as always :)
