Not long ago, we spent quality time with our 102-year-old grandmother (let's call her Grandma Liquorice!) as she gave us a practical lesson (yes, we had indigo-stained hands for days) on the art of tie-and-dye. Naturally, we took an immediate liking to this Urbanknit piece, not least because of its unique batik print. The irregularity of the pattern shows it was painstakingly done by hand by a skilled artisan, making it one-of-a-kind. Handmade by a group of skilled artisan weavers at Wawoto Kacel Cooperative Society in Northern Uganda, these scarves are made from gorgeous hand-dyed cotton.  The designs are developed by the artisans themselves - a unique pattern that resembles the ikat weavings of Central Asia.
