style notes: eric raisina 2010

eric raisina's 12-piece collection had many delicious spring-worthy moments, from his use of bright punches of color to his light and airy fabric choices. here's what stood out to us:

a. understated color, but still colorful nonetheless...perfect for the glamorous life of the party.

b. a hint of the always classic black - surefire go-to pieces in those "nothing to wear" moments.

c. easily our favorite pieces! a gorgeous kaleidoscope of reds, pinks, and oranges each with its own unique detail...be it leopard print or fringe-work.

d. these pieces didn't fit neatly into any of our categories, but here they are anyway! from the halter belted dress to the knit mini, these pieces may be just what your need on your next resort getaway.

mr. raisina's collection is a commendable celebration of color and fluidity and his pieces are the perfect choices for the lady who gets ready in record time.

style notes: david tlale spring 2010

david tlale presented a basic palette of strong black and white pieces alongside metallic lilacs, browns, and gold. there was drama, there was femininity and there was menswear. here are the highlights:

a. he used lots of tassels and fringe benefits to spice up some of his black and white pieces. the ruffled, high-neck also added a dash of edge:

notice the tassels on the shoulder...

b. we're in all types of love with his sheer, romantic little white dress...he also threw in an interesting little black dress for good measure.

c. a hint of metallic chic in the looks below:

d. browns and golds also featured and seemed to form a mini collection of their own, complete with a modern take on the pantsuit, a sheer sequined dress with matching pants, and a one-shoulder evening gown:

e. the men were not left out in the looks below:

there were several charming elements in david tlale's pieces, several of which we look forward to seeing off the runway in the coming months.

style notes: jewel by lisa spring 2010

the queen of bling (as we affectionately call her) showed a 12-piece fusion of ankara, embellishments and printed silk. while her collection @ arise africa fashion week met with rave reviews, this one was perhaps less ambitious, featuring simple ready-to-wear pieces and separates that need minimal work...which may be just what the western market needs. here's a closer look at each piece:

a. while she employed contrasting techniques for some pieces, these featured one pattern throughout and were also the only pieces that featured pants.

b. mini dresses with a spring flair, duly blinged out for maximum effect.

c. we love these separates - wear them as is or mix-and-match them with other pieces you own. the neon polka dot shorts are a particular favorite.

d. JBL has recently introduced outerwear into her collections, re-interpreting the spring jacket africa-style.

e. dresses with fringe benefits/details also made a debut, upping the ante on simple shapes.

f. last but not the least, signature contrast dresses that look dipped in bling and ready to dazzle.

all in all, a great first showing in NY for the JBL brand. we do miss some of the spunk from her last collection but JBL can do no wrong in our eyes, so we congratulate this fashion house on yet another hit.

style notes: tiffany amber spring 2010

tiffany amber's 14-piece collection featured her signature fluid, maxi dresses, complete with the same embroidery she introduced at arise africa fashion week. "relaxed chic" seemed to be the overriding theme and the fashion powerhouse incorporated printed fabric with rich yellow undertones as well as a variety of lengths. here's a quick run-through:

a. maxi-style, different sleeve styles and lengths, complete with solid colors, printed fabric, and metallic dresses:

b. water-color, resort-style dresses with summer hues. notice the stone centerpiece on the cutout maxi dress and the beaded halter dress.

c. yellow definitely stole the show, mixed in with gorgeous print - a collaboration between tiffany amber and artist kolade oshinowo.

d. lace contrast dresses - patterned underneath with a sheer lace overlay.

e. lastly, a relaxed, silk romper for the road :-)

all in all, classic tiffany amber with new twists thrown in and a definite visual delight.
